Professional experience includes 21 years as a Nursing Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, 13 years as a Legion Veterans Disability Advocate and Special Project Officer with the VAC Bureau of Pensions Advocates. Kathy has held Board positions with the Benevolent Irish Society, the Canadian Cancer Relay for Life Committee, and several terms as President of The Friends of the Confederation Centre of the Arts.
Secretary: Richard Kurial, PhD
Former Dean of Arts at the University of Prince Edward Island, where he teaches American History. Author of several publications on American Foreign Policy. Experience includes Director with the Institute of Island Studies (2002-2011), Executive Member of the Royal Commonwealth Society. Chair of the provincial “Task Force on Student Achievement” and several years volunteer with Canadian Blood Services.
Treasurer: Bruce Matheson, CPA, CMA
Bruce is a professional accountant and business owner. He has held Board positions with a number of organizations, including charitable, financial, and community-based.
Currently, he serves as the Treasurer of the Souris Show Hall Foundation after serving many years as Chairperson. Bruce serves as Vice-Chair of the Farm Centre, Treasurer of the Haviland Club and is a Director with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of PEI.
Member at Large: Jim Hornby, BA, MA, LL.B
Jim Hornby is a folklorist, fiddle player, historian, and lawyer. Jim holds a Masters of Arts degree in Canadian and Modern Literature as well as an M.A. in Folklore from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec and an LL.B degree from Dalhousie Law School in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Editor of the Island Magazine from 1980 to 1984. He has written a book and articles on PEI’s history, folklore, and traditional music.
